CommaFeed

container Productivity / Social

RSS reader in the style of Google Reader, with four layouts, keyboard shortcuts for nearly everything, rules that mark entries as read, OPML import and the Fever and Google Reader APIs for mobile apps.

Install CommaFeed

It isn't in the main Portainer Templates list yet, so use this one. Portainer takes one URL at a time, so it swaps out whatever list you had before.

In Portainer, head to Settings --> App Templates, paste this in as the URL and save.

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/NotAFlightRisk/portainer-templates-extras/main/templates.json
  1. Open App Templates and pick CommaFeed.
  2. The form works as it comes, so change only what you want to.
  3. Hit Deploy the container, then open http://<your-server>:8082 in a browser.

Before you start

Open http://<your-host>:8082 and the first page creates the admin account. There's no setup code, so do it straight after deploying. Sign-ups are off, so the admin adds everyone else from the user menu --> Manage users. It won't subscribe to feeds on private addresses, so for one on your own network add COMMAFEED_HTTP_CLIENT_BLOCK_LOCAL_ADDRESSES=false to the environment, but only if you trust everyone using it. Mobile apps log in with your username and an API key, which you make at the bottom of Settings --> Profile, where the Fever and Google Reader addresses are too. Everything lives in the H2 database in the volume. Docs: athou.github.io/commafeed

Settings

What the Portainer form asks for. With compose they go in the environment block instead.

VariableWhat it's forDefault
QUARKUS_HTTP_AUTH_SESSION_ENCRYPTION_KEYSession key Keeps you logged in when it restarts. At least 16 characters, generate one with: openssl rand -hex 16. Leave it blank and every restart or update logs everyone out. Blank is fine

Ports and storage

Change the left side of a port if it clashes with something else on your server. The volumes are where the data lives, so keep them when you update.
